Nancy Jones had a very creative childhood, which inspired her to follow the Arts all through her education.

She's had a rich and varied working career in Bristol for the last 18 years as a freelance costume maker and model maker and a large part of her portfolio is her animation work. 

Employed in a variety of capacities on films, commercials and exhibitions, making costumes for puppets, props, models and making and dressing sets, in between film work Nancy utilised her sewing skills once more in the employment of making corsets, dresses, fancy dress outfits, curtains, cushions, doing alterations, making props for theatre and the Olympic ceremonies.....

When she moved to the country with her family last year it gave her the opportunity to follow her heart and start her own business.  

Convinced she was a magpie in a former life, Nancy's never far from a market, charity shop, jumble or car boot and her passion for years has been fabulous fabric and fascinating trinkets, dressing up and making and creating.......

As she says "I decided on hats and fantastical headpieces as I felt I could combine some of my passions and skills and offer something really individual and stylish for people who love to dress up too."

FLO-JO BOUTIQUE - HEN PARTY FUN WITH A CREATIVE TWIST!

Why not book the perfect Hen Party where you’ll learn how to make a pair of knickers and a garter for the bride?  If there’s material left over, you can make bunting and add all the buttons, bows and vintage embellishments you like. Designing, sewing  and making all things vintage-inspired since 2004, owners Delia and Erika of Flo-Jo Boutique on Gloucester Road host brilliantly fun knicker-making and sewing parties. They search high and low for their retro-inspired prints and find inspiration in vintage lace and silks, which they ‘upcycle’. 

At Flo-Jo you'll find collections of handmade undies, knicker-making kits and frilly pines for sale.  They also run a haberdashery with carefully sourced fabrics, but the other half of the shop is a fabulous retro style 50's kitchen-inspired workshop space, filled with sewing machines.  This is where the fun happens with regular workshops on embellishing, quilting, patchwork and dressmaking, alongside high tea, cake and a glass of champagne.  Hens have a great time bonding over their making experience and it's something that mums will enjoy too. Flo-Jo cater for all ages and sewing experience, from total novices to fashion designers.

Custard House Clothing is the home of beautiful reworked vintage clothes, a professional alterations service and Customising and Sewing Design Hen Parties.

Owner, Janine Chisholm, has had quite a year.  Her first book “Thrifty Style” was published and her business has gone from strength to strength.

A former student of Theatre Design, Janine specialised in Costume, completing a Post Graduate in Innovative Pattern Cutting at St Martins College of Fashion. She worked in Professional Theatre and Television for years and her passion for clothes and helping people with their dress led her to create her ingenious business.

At the Fair, Janine will be showcasing some beautiful period pieces, which will include an exciting eclectic range of Vintage Bridal and Party Wear ranging from the 1940s to 1990s. There’ll also be a stylish mix of exciting accessories for Brides, Bridesmaids and Guests.

Thrifty Style by Janine Chisholm

If you visited our Bristol Vintage Wedding Fair earlier this year, you might have met Janine Chisholm of Custard House Clothing.  Janine was at the top of the stairs of our gorgeous Clifton Pavilion venue, along with some beautiful vintage clothes she'd designed herself and some she'd upscaled or accessorised. 

Janine's long been a friend of Bristol Vintage.  She used to have a shop in St Nick's Market and she's been demonstrating and selling her gorgeous vintage clothes at Tobacco Factory Market for some time. She runs sewing workshops, gives talks and demos and is now an Eco Designer, vintage Stylist and Personal Shopper.  Janine's passion is about transforming your wardrobe to make it work for you and, to add another string to her accomplished bow, she's written a book to help you do it yourself!

Thrifty Style by Janine Chisholm is a gorgeous book both for the novice or experienced seamstress.  It'll teach you how to sew and offers 35 sample projects with full and easy to understand instructions on how to rework your wardrobe.  With three patterns included in the back sleeve, you'll be inspired to tackle those clothes that have been sitting in the back of the wardrobe.  You know... those ones you haven't worn for over a year!

With an eye on style and fashion, you'll find plenty of inspiration in the book.  A fully fledged member of the Ethical Fashion Forum and passionate about sustainability, Janine wants to encourage everyone to recycle and rework their clothes.  The book comes out next week (2nd October) and we've got our copy!
