FLO-JO BOUTIQUE - HEN PARTY FUN WITH A CREATIVE TWIST!

Why not book the perfect Hen Party where you’ll learn how to make a pair of knickers and a garter for the bride?  If there’s material left over, you can make bunting and add all the buttons, bows and vintage embellishments you like. Designing, sewing  and making all things vintage-inspired since 2004, owners Delia and Erika of Flo-Jo Boutique on Gloucester Road host brilliantly fun knicker-making and sewing parties. They search high and low for their retro-inspired prints and find inspiration in vintage lace and silks, which they ‘upcycle’. 

At Flo-Jo you'll find collections of handmade undies, knicker-making kits and frilly pines for sale.  They also run a haberdashery with carefully sourced fabrics, but the other half of the shop is a fabulous retro style 50's kitchen-inspired workshop space, filled with sewing machines.  This is where the fun happens with regular workshops on embellishing, quilting, patchwork and dressmaking, alongside high tea, cake and a glass of champagne.  Hens have a great time bonding over their making experience and it's something that mums will enjoy too. Flo-Jo cater for all ages and sewing experience, from total novices to fashion designers. 

The knicker-making workshops are a very popular hen party choice. Over 3 hours you'll make a pair of knickers and contribute to the making of a garter for the bride-to-be using a selection of new and vintage lace and trims, retro-style prints, buttons and bows.

Visiting Lisa at her workshop on the borders of South Bristol and North Somerset is a real treat as you are surrounded by amazing swatches of silks, lace & tulles in an abundance of colours.  Here she will work with you to capture your vision, advise on what will suit you and what fabrics will work best for the style to create your perfect outfit.

One of the most passionate designers I know, Lisa takes pride in developing each gown from the early research stages through to fabric sourcing, pattern-cutting and then creating your individual dress by hand to couture standards.  You will love working with her and be thrilled with the finished result.

Lisa's design service offers everything from hand made gowns, corsets and co-ordinating skirt, Mother of the Bride outfits, shrugs, wraps & boleros, flattering neck corsets and lace jewellery and even wedding shoe customisation and embellishment, as well as alterations.

Tricia Designs offers bespoke fascinators, hats and clips, all made to order. The 'Bridal Collection' is updated regularly with new pieces that range from 'catwalk glamour' to elegant sophistication, with sleek lines, high quality gems and floating silks.

Whether you’re the bride, mother of the bride, a bridesmaid, flower girl or wedding guest, Tricia Designs has exquisite and charming organza floral belts, hairbands, hairclips, headbands, shoe clips and matching bow ties available.

 
Tricia's latest collection of fascinator accessories are inspired by 150 years of 'Alice in Wonderland'. Think drama, quirky images, splashes of colour and asymmetric patterns. Some pieces of the 'Alice' collection will showcase on her Facebook page in February so do check it out.

Tricia also makes and designs Venetian masks. Add suspense and style to masquerade events and let your imagination be the limit! She has a wide range of traditional masks and can create bespoke silhouettes in quality textiles. Each mask is an artistic explosion of colour and designed to suit the wearer. A wonderful designer with over 28 years' experience of making wedding gowns and corsets, Lisa will work with you to capture your vision of the perfect wedding dress. 

Specialising in alternative, bespoke bridal wear Lisa has a BA in fashion and textiles and teaches at Heartspace in Clevedon.  Her personal passion is stunning corsets and co-ordinated skirts and she runs weekend corset making workshops (honeymoon surprise for the new hubbie, or a great hen weekend idea!). 

She is essentially a designer who makes and pattern cuts and her work with you will always be collaborative.   Her aim is to bring your dream to life and to reflect your personality through your individual design, guiding you through the maze of possibilities - helping you choose the style, colour, shape and material that is perfect for you.

Her passion for fashion and textiles means she keeps up with current trends as well as taking inspiration from historical fashion, film and theatre and she takes pride in developing each gown from the early research stages through fabric sourcing, pattern-cutting and creating each individual dress by hand to couture standards, to your final, magical fitting!

When you start your journey with Lisa you'll be working with a true artist.  She's always pushing the boundaries and can make the most beautiful fairy-tale wedding dresses, inspired by Boho chic or a vision of Marie Antoinette but also experiments with other designers, including a great leatherworker - producing a pattern-printed leather corset. Her work is her passion and she's always looking at new materials and designs.

Lisa also offers an alteration service so, if you have a vintage dress or a family heirloom she can help.  One bride had a beautiful coat made from her mother's wedding dress.

Not only will you adore being involved in the creative process, you will love working with Lisa because of her lovely, bubbly personality.  Her enthusiasm and love for her work is all-encompassing.  Visiting her studio is a dream - there's so much to look at - you'll want to touch everything, with beautiful laces, silks and samples!  You really won't want to leave!

Clare Lloyd has been silver-smithing for over 8 years so when her sister got married and asked Clare to make her vintage-themed jewellery and bouquet Clare was hooked!  By popular demand, she started making wedding items for her friends which led to her own business making bespoke, unique pieces.

Each item is hand made by Clare using original vintage jewellery, precious metals and stones, pearls, buttons, lace and Swarovski crystals in order to create a unique piece you can treasure as a permanent reminder of your wedding day.

Clare has always made jewellery and has incorporated her passion of all things vintage, the fashion, furniture and architecture, into her designs.

Clare can work with you to design and make vintage style jewellery, hair accessories, button holes, corsages or bouquets.  She is inspired by the elegance of the 30's, 40's and 50's and loves creating new designs from once-loved pieces of  jewellery.

As she is registered with the Birmingham Assay Office, all Clare's silver jewellery is hallmarked and stamped with her makers mark (a heart surrounding her initials) and she also makes a range of simple hammered wedding bands in various metals.

Lace, silks, brooches, beads, pearls and buttons can be used to create an alternative everlasting bouquet, with the option to have matching corsages and button holes!  And a wide range of Clare's work can be seen on her gallery page.

Charlotte Smith for the Bride

Charlotte Smith has been designing beautiful vintage-style bridalwear for years.  She’s known for her fluid, feminine and very wearable dresses.

Currently developing her business, Bristol-based Charlotte will be bringing some of her gorgeous ready-made stock to our next Fair.  Ranging in size from 8 – 14, these handmade pieces are very versatile.  Made from beautiful silks, pure new wool or devoré they can be styled as contemporary or as vintage as you like.

It's not just dresses Charlotte designs either. On the day she'll also have several wedding outfits to include jackets and skirts, jackets and trousers and dresses with jackets.  There’ll be short as well as long slimline dresses as well as dresses with trains and dresses with and without sleeves. These outfits are perfect for civil weddings, registry office weddings and weddings abroad. Charlotte's lightweight and non-crease devoré dresses and trouser suits (with matching shawls and scarves) are a practical choice as you can fold them up in your suitcase for travelling.

On the day of the Fair, Charlotte will be on hand to talk about your wedding requirements and advise you on style and fit. She’ll have plenty of individual feminine styles for you to try on. Don't miss it!
